Using NLP As A Visualization Aid
may or may not be aware of. In this article I am going to
introduce you to some basic, older NLP devices that can be
incredibly effective.
First if you have never heard of NLP before, it stands for
Neuro Linguistic Programming. Be sure to do your own research on
NLP as there are plenty of free information sites available.
Now let's move on and I'll teach you how to apply one simple
NLP method to your visualizations. First, think of a good memory
that you found enjoyable or exciting. Whilst you're in the
process of recalling that memory, brighten the image in your
mind. Pretend that your mind works like a television set and you
can adjust the brightness control.
How did you feel? Was the memory becoming more intense?
Now to do the same thing again but this time, dim the
brightness. Notice how you feel now.
This time, recall the same memory but instead of adjust
brightness, intensify the colors as you see this memory in your
mind. Make them vivid, exciting and make them stand out! After a
few seconds of doing this, try dulling the colors like we did
before with the brightness. Notice how you feel in both
extremes.
In most cases, brightening an image or intensifying the colors
causes the emotional response to a memory to magnify. When you
dim and dull a memory this causes the emotional response to
diminish. Many therapists who use NLP teach people to dim their
bad memories, turn them black and white, shrink them, and even
mute them. This has the effect of removing the connection to the
emotions from the memory, and can allow many people to get over
traumatic episodes in their lives.
This little exercise has shown us that if we intensify the
colors and brightness we can intensify our emotional response
regarding the memory or vision. The whole point of visualizing
our desires is to create an emotional response which sends clear
and strong messages to the universe.
These little NLP tricks will help you to take your
visualizations to the next level and magnify your efforts.
Here are a few additional things that you can play around with:
try tilting the mental picture forward or backward; zoom in and
then out on the picture. Increase the red hue, then the blue
hue, then the green hue, and see how coloring your memory with
different colors affects your emotional response. Put a frame
around your memory. Make it into a two dimensional photo, then
back into a three dimensional environment.
Make sure when you're practicing, you are visualizing three
dimensional, moving pictures with sound, as though you are
there. Some people forget to include sound in their
visualizations. Remember, the more sensory responses you can
activate the more vivid and emotional you will become with your
visualization.
Have fun with this and play around until you find a perfect
combination for increasing your mental imagery.

Nicotine Addiction and N.L.P
Cigarette Smoking Addiction With NLP
I'm including several articles on N.L.P. in general even though they are not *from* Tony Robbins, bear with me, there is a method to my ...ness.
If you've just stumbled onto this blog please subscribe to my RSS
feed and remember to subscribe to Tony Robbins version of Global Beliefs to ensure you can enjoy the latest post(s).
There are three separate components to a cigarette smoking habit. Two of the elements are mental, and one part is physical.
Part A: YOU SMOKE FOR RELAXATION AND PLEASURE.
When you were a tot and you became upset, your mother would put a pacifier into your mouth to distract you from that upset. You would get distracted, become more peaceful, and often go to sleep. That scenario was repeated thousands of times so that your unconscious mind was programmed: When something goes into your mouth, you get relaxation and pleasure from it.
Now that you are a grownup, if you feel nervous or tense, you crave something in your mouth for relaxation and pleasure - a cigarette!
Part B: SMOKING IS A CONDITIONED RESPONSE.
Remember Pavlov? He rang a bell every time that he fed his dogs. After a few repetitions, he would just ring the bell, and the sound of the bell would trigger the dogs to salivate.
When you link smoking a cigarette with any other behavior, the other behavior will trigger cravings for a cigarette and an urge that makes you feel compelled to light up. This is called a conditioned response.
For example: If you light-up when you see a cup of coffee, you will automatically get an urge to light-up each time you have a cup of coffee.
Here is exactly how this conditioned response gets programmed into your subconscious: If a person smokes and simultaneously drinks a cup of coffee, the mind takes a snapshot of the cigarette in the hand, and ties it to the cup of coffee. Thereafter, every time the person has a cup of coffee, his unconscious mind fills in the missing part of the picture. It flashes an image of the cigarette, and the smoker gets a craving for one.
You may not be consciously aware of the mental image of the cigarette, because it may only be at the subconscious level of mind. Just as you are not consciously aware of what you are seeing through your peripheral vision until someone or something draws your attention to it. But the image is there, creating a craving for a cigarette.
Part C: THERE IS A PHYSICAL ADDICTION TO NICOTINE, BUT . . .
I've worked one-on-one with several thousand people who smoke and I give you my personal guarantee that the physical addiction is the weakest part of the habit. In fact, I believe that it is only ten percent of the smoking habit. ninety percent of the habit are the mental and emotional parts! (Parts A and B).
HERE IS WHAT THIS MEANS TO A SMOKER WHO WANTS TO QUIT.
As soon as you eliminate the anxiety that pushes you to put cigarettes into the mouth for relaxation and pleasure (Part A) . . . and when you erase the conditioned response of feeling compulsions for cigarettes when having a cup of coffee, driving, or finishing a meal, etc. (Part B) . . . then you can give up smoking without needing willpower, and without having to experience withdrawal symptoms or gaining weight.
Self Hypnosis can help trigger a smoker to stop. Self-hypnosis will make it easy to give up smoking because it takes care of Parts A & B! Here is how:
Part A is where people light-up a cigarette for relaxation and pleasure. It's a person's thoughts which create feelings of stress. More exactly, people always watch mental movies in their mind's eye. If the movie is negative, it creates a feeling of anxiety.
We can use various hypnosis and NLP techniques to train the unconscious to automatically take those stress creating mental images, and automatically exchange them for relaxation producing mental pictures and movies. This produces relaxation and pleasure, and eliminates the stress that triggers the oral compulsions and cravings for cigarettes.
Because of the elimination of stress, the smoker who is quitting does not feel the compulsion or need to substitute food in place of the cigarettes. So quitting without weight gain is possible.
Part B is where people light-up because smoking becomes a conditioned response to many different activities and locations. Remember in the earlier example how smoking became unconsciously associated with other activities and environments so that each time smokers get into that activity or environment, the mind flashes an image of a cigarette, and the image of the cigarette triggers cravings for a cigarette?
There are effective hypnosis technologies that can effectively eliminate those conditioned responses so that a smoker's unconscious will lose the cravings for cigarettes, and the compulsion to smoke. As a matter of fact, you can even get a compulsion to reject the cigarettes.
TO SUMMARIZE
To summarize, when we utilize certain NLP methods, it becomes very easy to quit smoking without withdrawal or weight gain. And many of these techniques do not even depend on post-hypnotic suggestions. They depend on training the subconscious mind to use the same thought processes that the mind is using to create the smoking habit, to eliminate the mental addiction.
Alan B. Densky, CH established his practice starting in 1978. He offers Neuro-VISION Video Stop Smoking Self Hypnosis Programs and Audio Quit Smoking Self Hypnosis Programs. Visit his free library of original NLP & hypnosis articles or download FREE self hypnosis and NLP newsletters and MP3's.

How do you characterize yourself
- This is my number one priority in life (say adventure)
- This is second priority in my life (say confidence)
- and so on... (how about 'safety')

Your Beliefs are BIGGER than you are.
You see that graphic above?
The parts of you that you're aware of are... puny.
The parts of you that are below the surface are... you aren't even aware of how much bigger (more powerful, more influential) they are than the you you like to think is you is.
I know, I used that word twice... sue me.
Up till right now, you actually thought you WERE the voice in the back of your head.
What you are really is a Space for Events to Occur In
There's more than one of us in here!
How'd you get your belief system anyway?
Ever thought about that?
Most of us inherited them from our family of origin, as if it were a tribe we belong to.
I was born in 1957, spent my younger years just south of the Mason Dixon Line. Most of my families neighbors were racist. My parents were not... the racism I'm talking about is not the K.K.K hate monger kill the bastards type, it was more insidious, built in, hidden...
the young friends I grew up with didn't think too much about it, there just weren't any black people where we lived. We saw them once in a while when we were taken to the store, you kinda drove past em... and 'hey?!" "there's one"
It wasn't until I watched Hogans Heros (Barney was black and he was cool), watched Mission Impossible (they had a black guy & he was cool)... you see where I'm going with this?
You simply didn't think about it... you just 'grafted'your beliefs from your surroundings...as if they were a lens through which every thing (all incoming data presorted according to a criteria) was *colored*
Well, if your global beliefs are, say, 'no one that makes over $20 an hour is earning their money without ripping somebody off'...
want to see this in action?
take your six closest friends (anybodies six closest friends for that matter), YOUR income will fall within the medium of what they make.
Hockey players don't hang around with Chess Players.
What if you had an unconscious belief ( a global one- Life is.. people are...) that said "I can't make more money than my Daddy did"
and you didn't know you had such a belief
... do you really think you'd make more than your Daddy?
If you *accidentally* made more you'd screw it up somehow:

Beliefs hidden like glass celing.
If for example your Family of Origin had a Global Belief that was characterized by the following statement:
"Give em an inch and they'll take a mile"
Then you'd look at the world as if that pre-supposition was true.
... and you'd never even notice that this world view IS a PRE-supposition

Half Empty or Half Full?
What do you think this guys Global Outlook on life is?
Is his glass Half Empty or Half Full?
That's what a Global Belief IS, it's an 'outlook on life'
You can't not have a Global Belief System (I know, that's a double negative, shoot me:)
You Have to have some kind of system to "Pre Sort" all incoming data.
What's this tell you about how your 'outlook' pre determines what you're capable of, what you're willing to do or not do?
A Global Belief is there... but it's insideous, because you don't KNOW it's there!
it's there none the less

The Structure of Subjective Experience
Subjectivity is distinguished from objectivity in both science and philosophy. Objectivity attempts to be the study of “reality”. Subjectivity by contrast is focused on how people experience and conceive reality. It assumes that whilst there may be an absolute reality, and knowing it may be beneficial, for the most part a person does not and cannot in fact “know” it, but can only know what they perceive, and what beliefs they form about it as a result. Thus whilst objectivity looks for true facts, subjectivity looks at perceived reality and personal beliefs.
(A common example of the difference is, that in a dispute between people, often each side has their own view “what happened”. Whatever actually happened would be objective reality, whatever each side believed they experienced, saw, felt, heard, thought or believed would be their perception of reality. NLP by definition studies the latter, often highly relevant when exploring human mind and communication)
NLP further claims that this subjective experience of reality is organized, that is, structured, and that the manner of organization varies significantly between individuals. It does not (at least in its original form) speculate as to a theory or science of experience. Rather it simply says, that for any person, their perceptions, thoughts and beliefs are not randomly collected, but are organized, structured and interconnected. Classical clinical psychiatry takes the same stance for example, when it views a person’s problems as stemming from childhood - the problem is not random, it has meaning and interconnection within the body of their experience
NLP is a profoundly powerful suite of tools for dealing with people’s individual reality.
NLP is about how our human brains think; how we can achieve change in our own lives; how we relate to other people; and how we learn from excellence.
The core of the NLP understandings include how we deal with
our own beliefs, our relationships and our perception of time.

What exactly ARE Beliefs?
A Belief is nothing more than a
"Feeling of Certainty"
that something is going to happen.
- Must I be in defensive mode?
- Is X, Y or Z something I need to pay attention to because it's a danger to me?
- Can I relax?
- Is this X, Y or Z something I want to look foreword to?
- Is this something I want to encourage?

Addiction Remedies -Heading East looking for Sunset
Fine, sounds good on paper.
How many times have you tried to quit smoking cigarettes?
You get to have total control over the "parameters" or how you "DEFINE" the measure of progress you're making towards conquering an addiction.
Let's say you screw up...
Is that 'screw up' a:
Relapse?
or a Slip?
What ever you do, don't 'set your self up for failure', what CAN you do that's pro-active?
Set a 'bottom line', experts define addiction as:
a recurring self destructive behavior that you contine even after you see it has negative consequences.

Don't Give a Goal a Time Frame
Really. I mean it.
If you specify a time frame you may be severely limiting your internal resources.
come again?
What if your subconscious can provide an answer, a result right now?
what if it can solve the problem by this time tomorrow?
Also specifying a time frame inadvertently saddles you with this pre-suppostion (which incidentally is a command to your inner resources)
You’ve presupposed that you’re not there yet.
Here is a line from one of my ebooks:
Doing is Volts
Being is Ohms
Being out-performs Doing by ten to the twenty zillionth power
(I just made that up)
We all have:
A Left Brain A Right Brain
http://www.funderstanding.com/right_left_brain.cfm
Our left brain has been watching our right brain it’s whole life
and he’s never seen him do anything!
that’s because right brain’s job is being
not doing
Left brain is watching the volt meter of doing and correctly observing that his counter part, right brain is incapable of doing…
the volt meter will not budge one iota
Being is like ohms, conductivity, or Torque
Doing is like Volts, or RPM
If you need to know more about Volts and Ohms (sorry, my bad, my analogies are rather masculine...) see this post:
http://www.dribin.org/dave/blog/archives/2003/12/29/amps_vs_volts/
Have you ever tried to get juice flowing when you’ve got no conductivity?
No wonder left brain has contempt for right brain,( http://victimbehavior.blogspot.com/2008/08/part-of-you-is-looking-you-with.html )
he’s bitching and moaning because he’s stuck with right brain as a team mate!

Abandonment Issues, definition of Child Abuse
Child Abuse.
Vague all encompassing term... means many things to many people.
In the Family Systems Theory of Codependent behavior, Child abuse is loosely defined as any parenting that produces abandonment.
This is why there are rich kids that become addicts, this is why some kids join gangs.
What constitutes abuse?
What regulatory agency is there that determine what is and what isn't "Abuse"/
There isn't one, and if there was, it would:
1 be a dismal failure
2 be totalitarian (nazi/ communist/ Jim Jones-ish)
3 be the actual 'Brave New World' that Auldous Huxley warned us of.
American Society, (with it's Victorian values) in the 50's tried to regulate what it thought society should be and do. That's what got us the turbulent 1960's!
Basically your parents abused you.
They didn't actually mean to, they parented you (probably) they way they were parented.
The abandonment was built init was unconscious, your abandonment was part of your parent's global belief system.
A Global Belief System is your paradigm, it's the fish bowl to the fish, you have one, you can't NOT have one.

So you think your Conscious mind is in control huh?
![]() |
| Crack Cocaine Addiction Recovery www.cocaineregrets.com |
So you think your conscious mind is in control huh?
Your conscious mind can: out vote your subconscious... but it's NOT the dominant part of your behavior.
Your conscious mind can only hold (maximum) up to 9 Chunks of information at a time.
7 +/- 2 bits of info.
Do you really think about all the hundreds of individual actions required just to get up off your chair and walk over to a light switch and turn that switch?
Up till now you thought (I mean you really believed) that the voice in the back of your head was you...
It's not.
What you ARE is a 'space for events to occur in'
Don't agree that we're all schizophrenic?
We all have at least two personalitys, don't believe that?
sit on a bench, at a bus stop... what you're willing to do or not do is one self.
Now let someone else sit at that same bench, waiting for the same bus... all of a sudden your guard goes up, what you're will to let that perfect stranger see about you is in your awareness.
You now have to monitor what you WANT the public to see about you, a moment ago you might have picked your nose, or scratched your crotch

first post since my Dad died
Dad died of cancer in July, I went on a binge for several months...
Everything is as it should be now
- My ex wife is 400 miles away
- I live with my 2 youngest children
- we live in a 300k townhouse with hardwood floors and 4 bathrooms
- I'm having a real parenting relationship w/ my youngest daughter and
I'm lucky she even talks too me based on my screwing up from P.T.S.D. from
incest when I was between the ages of 5 and 10

long time no post... how it all turned out
I've not been posting, I've not been working on my main website:
www.victimbehavior.com
NOTE- I lost the domain name www.victimbehavior.com it's now http://victimbehavior.blogspot.com
I've been working on paying back child support... and been guilty of back sliding into
love addiction/ dysfunctional unworkable relationships (with my ex)
The Super Shuttle (airport taxi in the form of a shared ride/ in a van) franchise
did not work out... at least not right now.
I did buy the van (it has a blown motor and I got it cheap)
I did get turned down for my appication to get what the State of Maryland calls a
'Public Service Commission passenger for hire' licence.
I've learned that if I appeal, I will probably get approved.
On another front, driving a tractor trailer is a blast.
it is so cool to go to work and have fun... I'd do it for free.
(I don't want my job to know that)
I've been working over 70 hours a week...earning roughly $4500/ $4800 a month
(before taxes) and paying out all of it in back child support and over due bills.
I shouldn't feel guilty...first things first!
More later
Thursday, July 24, 2003
Been working 80 hrs a week- makes it hard to update this blog
on the week ends. Super Shuttle has franchises- they are owner operators and earn roughly
2000 a week...
this is probably workaholism...but
if it pans out I can hire drivers and after I get a few months experiance I'll be able to
drive a tractor trailer anywhere- anytime- at will...any time I want to pick up a quick
couple thousand dollars

What did Tony Robbins do for me?
----------
This question was posted to me in a message board, my response is below:
Immediate relief from self sabotage, we're talking 180 degree turnaround
============
What Tony has that I've not seen in other NLP stuff is his work on
values and beliefs
especially from a codependent/acoa point of view.
Global Beliefs:
Gross generalizations, usuallly grafted from your
parents or your environment- Often unconscious.
Decisions we made when we were young
Global Beliefs are different from regular beliefts
They are a catagory of beliefs such as:
'life is'
or
'people are'
those kinds of things we tend to think of as being
- 'set in stone'
- 'etched in concrete'
they are not
'whose decision is this?', I doubt if you consciously chose (that) limiting belief...
is it useful?
Almost everybody has heard of Tony Robbins. He's the big guy with the big teeth you've seen on infomercials all over the place.
Tony's work is primarily seen as being for the 'Success/Motivational Crowd'.
While that certainly is ONE appropriate use of Tony's version of NLP, it's ignoring the vast majority of the population that can benefit tremendously from his workshops on tape.
People from the 12 step/ codependency/ behavior modification crowd are the ones who would benefit the most from Tony's work.
There is a reason that most success coaching tape sets BEGIN with self image building.
FACING YOUR PERSONAL DEMONS!
Most of the success motivational crowd begin their counsel by FIRST exhorting the student of success to expand their self-image, self esteem, what they truly believe they are worthy of, in their heart of hearts.
Tony's work does much, much more than that. He effectively gets people to TAKE ACTION.
Reading the printed word is NOT ENOUGH, no matter how good the text is, if you read it and say to yourself:
"Gee that sure was interesting", or "Gee that's exactly what I need to do"
...and you go right back to doing the same thing, well...
Tony's workshops and exercises force you to FACE YOUR PERSONAL DEMONS; and, if you're not willing to, he tells you to "...give this tape to someone who will!"
He gives you real time, effective tools, an entire tool bag, multiple approaches that give you "more than one way to skin a cat".
The 12 step model of change (that's what it really is, ultimately, either a change in behavior, and/ or elimination of an addiction, leading up to a spiritual awakening)- that change can be multiplied exponentially and the length of time invested can be dramatically shortened by combining NLP.
With this course you will discover what your Limiting Beliefs are, even ones you thought were 'set in stone'
Many codependents , even when they become aware of self destructive behavior patterns, feel worse if they feel they cannot change their old belief systems.
Some shrug it off saying: "That's just the way I was raised"
Tony's tape set is in the form of workshops and daily exercises (a 30 day plan- each one starting out like weight training, each day a little more weight) that use the technology of NLP to create amazing changes that you never thought possible!
